TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday reported that the Tojo Una-una region in Central Sulawesi had been struck by a shallow earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake, according to the BMKG head of earthquake and tsunami center, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno on Monday, was mainly caused by a local fault deformation at 0.74 degrees south latitude and 121.88 east longitude.

Its epicenter was located at 55 kilometers northeast of Tojo Una-Una regency, Central Sulawesi, while its hypocenter was detected at 10 kilometers below the sea surface, which resulted in people mainly feeling the quake inside their houses on the MMI III-IV scale.

Bambang assured that no tsunami warning had been triggered and no reports on damages had been reported until 11:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
