TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker and National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Amien Rais said that President Megawatis statement, that challenged her political opponents in the 2004 general election, was normative. Technically, the election is Indonesian politicians competitive area for the presidential seat. The statement was normative. Theres nothing odd about that, Rais told reporters at the legislature complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/01). Although Megawati did not directly mention which political opponents she referred to, Rais said hes prepared to go face to face with Megawati. Since I started my involvement in political world, I have always been prepared, he added. Golkar party chairman and House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Akbar Tandjung considered Megawati has showed an open political stance by issuing such statement. Tandjung said such a stance would be highly required in the next general election. The parties are given the opportunities to nominate their candidates in the next general election. Let them compete in a proper spirit. In the end, the people will make their decision over these parties, Tandjung stated. (Andi Dewanto-Tempo News Room)
