TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Security Minister Mahfud MD on Thursday held a virtual discussion with the country’s religious figures and ulemas to talk about issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, including hoaxes.
Mahfud MD believed religious figures had an important role in disseminating the government's campaign against COVID-19. “We must collectively save ourselves and take swift steps so the pandemic can quickly end,” Mahfud wrote in a statement on Friday, July 16.
Mahfud MD also lauded religious figures who had provided contents that help the public grasp the critical situation through brief social media videos.
He specifically noted videos created by Ustad Das’ad Latief from Makassar and Tuan Guru Bajang from tWest Nusa Tenggara (NTB) as examples of short videos that were effective in helping people understand the dangers of COVID-19.
“These are the things expected to come from religious institutions and religious figures that can help our pandemic mitigation,” said Mahfud MD in the event initiated by Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko.
