TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo monitored online the Covid-19 vaccination for high school students on Wednesday, July 14, from the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta. A total of 49,000 students would receive their vaccines.

“[There are] 15,000 junior high school students and 15,000 senior high school students, and 19,000 students will later join door-to-door vaccination,” said the President in his remarks today.

He also reminded that all elements in schools, starting from teachers to school staffers, must be vaccinated as preparation should school be reopened in the future.

“We want to accelerate the vaccination in order to achieve herd immunity and prevent Covid-19,” he remarked.

The state head then had a discussion with a number of students and teacher representatives via a video conference. He answered a question from one of the students of SMAN 39 Jakarta who asked about the effect of the public mobility restriction (PPKM) on the current rising Covid-19 trend.

“In theory, if the public mobility is minimized, the interaction between people will lessen, so the virus transmission will certainly drop,” Jokowi explained. “There are various ways. The point is lockdown or PPKM aims at reducing mobility, reducing interaction between people,” he concluded.
