TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani called on all elements of the nation to unite and build optimism in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to her, the generosity of all parties to empathize and contribute positively is highly needed in this difficult time.

“Don't accuse each other or blame parties who are working hard to deal with this pandemic in order to save the nation's children,” said Puan in a written statement on Monday, July 12.

She appealed to all elements not to accuse each other, attack each other, or contradict each other. She lamented that there are parties who acted and even issued statements that have the potential to hurt the public.

According to her, such willingness to take political advantage is not appropriate as people are suffering and struggling to deal with the threat of the pandemic.

Puan further asked leaders, both at the central and regional levels, to work together for the recovery of Indonesia.

Puan Maharani expressed optimism that Indonesia still has hope for recovery because of the public spirit to help each other. “There is still the spirit to care for people who are sick and suffering, the spirit to work together to produce solutions in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” she remarked.
