West Papua Regional General Hospital Temporarily Closed Due to Overcapacity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Papua Regional General Hospital (RSUD) is temporarily closed as of Friday morning, July 9, due to overcapacity following increased number of COVID-19 patients.
Citing Antaranews, the hospital’s director, Arnold Tiniap, confirmed the situation. “There are currently 111 COVID-19 patients treated. We are temporarily closed because there is no space left to treat patients.”
According to him, the hospital’s actual capacity to treat coronavirus patients are limited to 120, but the operational ones are only 110 as some of the rooms are still substandard.
Tiniap added there were 20 medical workers in the general hospital exposed to the virus, thus the hospital would need to establish rooms for the workers. He said the hospital's oxygen supplies for moderate and severe cases were also depleting and this issue was presently being taken care of.
“Twenty of our medical workers are already exposed, and this affects our services in handling patients,” he said.
New cases logged in West Papua are among the highest in Indonesia with 317 additional cases, bringing the province's total tally to 2,912 active cases.
