Indonesia to Use Hajj Dormitories as Covid-19 Isolation Wards

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas issued instruction No.3/2021 on Using Hajj Dormitory as a Place to Accommodate Covid-19 Patients. The Hajj dorms will be used for isolation and/or other emergency needs.

"The minister instructed us to optimize the use of the hajj dormitories as a place for accommodating and treating Covid-19 patients," the ministry's acting director general of hajj and umra (PHU), Khoirizi, said in a written statement, Monday, July 5.

This instruction was addressed to the Religious Affairs' Secretary General, the Acting Director General of PHU, as well as the heads Ministry's Provincial Offices and the head of the Hajj Dormitory Technical Implementation Unit.

They are instructed to coordinate with the Covid-19 Task Force, the Indonesian National Armed Forces or TNI, the Indonesian National Police, governors, and other relevant bodies.

Khoirizi added that the use of Hajj dorms to accommodate Covid-19 patients for self-isolation and/or other emergency needs is stipulated in the 'Temporary Loan Event' minutes, by including the rights and obligations of the parties involved.

"All costs incurred as a result of the use of Hajj dormitories for this purpose are to be coordinated with the governor, regent/mayor, as well as the provincial and regencies/cities levels of Covid-19 Task Forces," he said.
