TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise. The risk to contract the new coronavirus is there but it can be minimized by strictly implementing the health protocols.

But if you end up being exposed to the virus, you still have to maintain your mental health. According to a psychiatrist, Zulvia Oktanida Syarif, someone infected to Covid-19 may experience increased anxiety. Through her Instagram account, Zulvia shared tips to maintain mental health when one is infected with covid.

Stay Calm

You will definitely feel anxious when you are diagnosed with Covid-19. But you must stay calm and contained. Take a deep breath and relax to remain calm.

Focus

Instead of spending time to worry about you tested positive for Covid-19, try to focus to solve it by preparing the medicines, a self-isolation place, searching for alternative locations to temporarily move your children, contacting a doctor or hospital, and preparing food stock and other logistics.

You have to be focus at 'What' not 'Why'. Try to distract your mind to think of what to do and find solutions, instead of focusing on the problem.

Monitor Health Condition

Set time to monitor your health condition or symptoms, by checking your temperature, blood tension, oxygen saturation, and so on. If the condition seems to be stable, or not getting worse, you dont have to check it at any time.

Stay Connected

Make sure to remain connected to your family members and friends while self-isolating. By doing so, you won't feel so alone and lonely.

Make Your Self Busy

You may have hobbies that you couldn't do before you get infected with the new coronavirus, as you were busy doing works or taking care of your children. Utilize your time during the isolation by doing things you couldn't do previously, such as write a journal, shoot a daily life vlog, watch animation series or favorite movies, learn new things from the internet, and so on. Enjoying these things will help reduce your anxiety.

Reflect

You will have much time to reflect your self during the self-isolation period. Reflect what is actually important for your life. Amid the trying times, people usually will be able to to do self-reflection more. Some people will also feel more at peace when they get theirselves closer to God.

Try to create positive feelings by doing things that make you happy during this time. This situation can be so stressful and uncomfortable but you have to survive and do your best to recover quickly.
