TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry’s Research and Development Agency published a study on the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine among health workers in Jakarta, which was conducted from January 13 to March 18, 2021.

Based on the research, the ministry found that the Covid-19 vaccine was effective in preventing virus infections by up to 94 percent in the second dose of injection. The effectiveness was fully reached 28 days after the inoculation.

The vaccine produced in China also helped prevent death caused by the disease by 100 percent after the second dose.

Meanwhile, Sinovac was proven to be able to prevent the infection by up to 13 percent on the 14th day after the first injection. The inoculation of the first dose will also prevent Covid-19 serious treatment by up to 53 percent on the seventh day after injection.

The vaccine effectiveness study involved 25,374 health workers across Jakarta aged over 18 years and tested negative for Covid-19. The research used an observational method with a retrospective cohort study design.

The Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), meanwhile, said the number of doctors who died while treating Covid-19 patients increased significantly from May to June 2021. Based on IDI data, seven doctors died in May and rose to 26 people in June. IDI thus encouraged the injection of the third dose of the Sinovac vaccine for health workers.
