Sinovac Bulk Vaccines Arrive; Expediting Govt's Herd Immunity Goal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government as of Wednesday, June 30, has received 14 million Sinovac bulk vaccines to boost the national vaccination program. In total, Indonesia has received 105.5 million doses in bulk and 3 million dose vials from the Chinese vaccine developer.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that it would take at least one month for state-pharmaceutical firm, Bio Farma, to process them into the final products that would be injected to millions of Indonesians.
“From the roughly 105 million bulks there will be at least 85 million vaccines. It will be ready within one month from now,” said the Minister on Wednesday, June 30. “There will likely be 85 million Sinoavac vaccines ready to use in early August.”
Moreover, he announced that there will be additional AstraZeneca vaccines in July and Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines in August.
The government is eyeing to vaccinate 181.5 million by the end of the year, which constitutes 70 percent of the population, in an attempt to reach herd immunity. There had been numerous mass vaccination programs since early 2021, utilizing vaccines from Sinovac and AstraZeneca.
