TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Ombudsman suggested the Jakarta Provincial Government re-apply the exit and entry permit or SIKM for non-essential business sectors during the extended micro-scale Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) on June 22-July 5, 2021.

Teguh Nugroho, the Head of Jakarta Ombudsman, said the SIKM policy was necessary to control people who work from home or WFH.

“So it will not become work from holiday. The restrictions on shopping and entertainment centers in the Jakarta area are feared to increase the potential for people to move out of town and work from their holiday spots,” said Teguh in a written statement on Friday, June 25.

According to him, the monitoring should be indeed carried out by the agencies or the companies of the employees. However, Teguh said the city administration could help control the implementation of Micro PPKM by re-applying SIKM.

Teguh opined the SIKM policy could only be applied to people who did not work in the essential sector as stipulated in the Gubernatorial Decree No. 796 of 2021 concerning the extension of Micro PPKM. Teguh said workers in essential sectors, such as in the distribution of basic necessities and the delivery services, could be excluded from the policy.

“In the previous SIKM regulations, the obligation to register in the staple food and goods delivery sectors hindered the distribution of basic needs and goods,” Teguh said.
