TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat King Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X decided to temporarily shut down a number of tourist destinations belonging to the Keraton or Yogyakarta Palace due to the skyrocketing number of COVID-19 cases in the region.

“The closure of this palace tourism is one of the efforts to suppress the rise in cases in Yogyakarta,” said Sultan’s second daughter Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Condrokirono in a written statement in Yogyakarta, Friday, June 25.

According to her, the temporary closure of the palace tour would last for one week from Saturday, June 26, until Friday, July 2, 2021.

Tourist attractions affected by the closure include the Keraton Train Museum, the Pagelaran Complex, the Keben/Kedhaton Complex (Palace Museum), Tamansari, as well as Imogiri and Kotagede areas.

Condrokirono said the closure of the tourist attractions belonging to the Yogyakarta Palace was carried out under dhawuh dalem or a decree issued by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.

“This closure is aimed at protecting the health of the family of the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace, abdi dalem (royal servants), and the people of Yogyakarta from COVID-19,” she said.
