TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 surge across a number of Indonesian regions has started to affect the bed occupancy rate of refferal hospitals in a number of regions. The bed occupancy rate at hospitals in Java Island even reached above 80 percent.

The bed occupancy rate in Jakarta was reported to be 87.88 percent while the occupancy rate of isolation rooms was already at 92.15 percent as of June 24.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the government will impose three attempts to reduce the load across hospitals and avoid a health system collapse.

“Three hospitals have been converted 100 percent to handle Covid-19 patients. We hope the conversion will be complete by the end of this week and help increase the number of hospital beds available for Jakarta residents,” said Minister Sadikin in a press conference held virtually on June 25.

The three hospitals in Jakarta are RSUP Fatmawati, RSPI Sulianti Saroso, and RSUP Persahabatan.

The government will also convert emergency facilities into treatment rooms and set up tents in hospital yards. Flats located in Jakarta’s Cilincing, Pasar Rumput, and Setiabudi will also be used to accommodate Covid-19 patients which is expected to provide thousands of extra beds for non-severe cases.
