President Jokowi Defends Micro PPKM, Likens it to a Lockdown

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, in a Youtube video published by the State Secretariat office on Wednesday, said the country has handled the Covid-19 pandemic thoroughly which adapts to the current social, economic, and political conditions.
He also claims the government has followed what other countries have applied in their own handling of the global pandemic. This has resulted in the government imposing the micro PPKM or micro-scale public activity restrictions which is deemed the most appropriate option.
“The government decided that the micro PPKM is still the most appropriate policy to stop the spread of Covid-19 down to the level of village communities or directly to the main issue, which is the community,” said President Jokowi in his statement on June 23.
He defends that the micro PPKM manages to control the spread of Covid-19 while letting the economy remain alive. Jokowi also said a lockdown and PPKM share the same principle and that neither should be questioned.
“If the micro PPKM is implemented well, the actions in the field can be strengthened, and should control the spread of cases,” said Jokowi.
