TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Maritime and Fisheries Ministry in a statement on Tuesday announced authorities successfully foiled a smuggling attempt of 63,950 clear lobster seeds (BBL) in the area of East Tanjung Jabung, Jambi.

The lobster seeds smugglers, says Head of Fish Quarantine Station, Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products in Jambi Piyan Gustaffiana, initially intended to export the lobster seeds which violates the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry’s Regulation No.17/2021.

“The arrests were made on Sunday evening by East Tanjung Jabung police. We counted a total of 63,950 lobster seeds,” said Piyan in a statement on Tuesday evening.

The smuggling attempt was foiled after authorities grew suspicion for a vehicle used by the suspects that had black containers inside in an initial inspection, their suspicion was confirmed after the suspects immediately made an escape after authorities approached the vehicle. The suspects managed to flee and ditched the car before disappearing in the roadside bushes.

Exporting lobster seeds has been made illegal under Law No.31/2004 Article 92 Jo Article 26(1) and subjects smugglers to 8 years imprisonment.
