TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police are intensively carrying out the Yustisi Operation, which aims to ensure the enforcement of public health protocols, following the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the capital city, said the patrol head of the police traffic unit Adj. Sr. Comr. Argo Wiyono.

The police are determined to prevent gatherings of the public who watch the Euro 2020. “The target is the crowds of people who watch football matches. We will remind them about the health protocol and disperse them,” said Argo on Friday, June 18.

He explained that 100 personnel divided into two groups are deployed for the operation which starts from 22:00 to 00:00 local time. The police will monitor restaurants, cafes, or night entertainment venues that operate at midnight and are often used as public gatherings.

“We appeal to the public to watch (Euro 2020) at home during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Argo.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Jakarta has increased since June 9, 2021, after the Eid holiday. The city recorded around 1,000-2,000 new cases per day.

Yesterday, June 17, Jakarta recorded the second-highest daily hike in coronavirus infections with 4,144 cases. The highest daily hike was recorded on February 7, 2021, with 4,213 cases.
