TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 transmission in Indonesia has reached 8,000 cases within the past two days, which is the highest number recorded in the past four months.

The last time it reached 8,000 cases per day was on February 25, 2021. The Covid-19 task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito said the government is bracing for the rising of the case as the effect of the Eid holidays.

"This is really alarming for all of us, [therefore, we're] evaluating while bracing ourselves to face the possible higher case surge," Wiku said in the press release on Saturday, June 12.

The long holidays contribute to the significant rise of coronavirus infection cases, especially in Java Island, which was seen since the first week post the Eid Day. Until the third week, the surge of the case on the island was 56 percent, which contribute to 57.6 percent of the national level.

The government continues to impose the Covid-19 restriction and micro lockdown until the village level. "The micro lockdown done gradually in all provinces has proven to be effective to suppress Covid-19 cases in the national level. The drop in Java Island is so significant that it reached 70 percent from the the peak of the case," Wiku said.
