TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the addition of 3,365 Covid-19 cases in the capital city for the past two weeks was due to two factors. First, because of the 2021 Eid homecoming or mudik.

“Secondly, because of the Eid gathering. Those are the reasons,” said Riza at the City Hall, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, June 2.

The city’s Health Agency recorded 3,365 new positive cases in the last two weeks as of May 31, 2021, compared to the data from the previous two weeks.

However, Riza said the city government was not yet able to measure the impact of the Eid homecoming and return flow on the addition of active cases. According to him, it required data on the development of cases in the next two weeks.

“The data will be clearer in the next two weeks,” he said.

Jakarta residents who were infected with the coronavirus disease today, June 2, increased by 601 people. The number of active cases, meanwhile, rose by three cases.

With the new daily data, the total caseload of Covid-19 cases in the capital city since the onset of the pandemic reached 431,179, with the currently active cases amounted to 10,639. Active cases mean that patients are still being treated or undergoing isolation.
