TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito on Wednesday announced that there had been 27 deaths - initially suspected to be linked to the national vaccination program that uses Sinovac vaccines - which he said is unrelated to the Covid-19 vaccine brand.

An internal investigation, he said, found that the deaths were mainly caused by comorbidity. “10 deaths were due to Covid-19, 14 deaths were caused by heart and artery illnesses, and one case was due to sudden kidney function impairment, while two other cases are caused by uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension,” said the spokesperson on May 27.

The Health Ministry continues to monitor the post-immunization accidents (KIPI) across the country, following the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination program.

To date, 10.2 million Indonesians have been vaccinated. Based on the latest Health Ministry’s data on Wednesday, this number has increased to a total of 10,224,833 people.

Indonesians receiving their first dose of Covid-19 vaccines increased by 205,692 to a total of 15,535,998 people.

The government's initial vaccination program targeted people working in the healthcare services, public services workers, and the elderly which amount to 40,349,049 people. Indonesia plans to vaccinate a total of 181.5 million citizens or 70 percent of its total population.
