TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Office noted an increase in Covid-19 cases over the last two weeks. According to the Office, the number of active cases was 7,039 on May 3, which then increased to 7,293 as of May 18.

Active cases figures are expected to rise over the next few weeks after the Eid holiday. However, the Health Office said that the hospital bed occupancy rate is still under control.

Head of the Jakarta Health Office, Widyastuti, said that the current occupancy rate of Covid-19 isolation beds is 26 percent. "Meanwhile, the ICU occupancy rate is 34 percent," she said in a written statement, Monday, May 17.

Widyastuti said the Health Office is bracing for a likely case surge from the "mudik" cluster, taking notes from what happened during the long Christmas and New Year holidays, as well as last year's Eid.

As of May 17, 2021, the Jakarta Health Office has prepared 6,633 isolation beds and 1,007 ICU facilities. "The availability of isolation beds and ICUs is still above 50 percent."

Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that there was no prohibition for residents to enter the capital city. However, those returning from their hometowns to the capital must go through a rigorous screening process.
