TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Foreign Affairs Ministry’s director general of protocol and consular, Andy Rachmianto, on Tuesday’s House of Representatives (DPR) hearing announced that the number of Indonesians overseas exposed to the Covid-19 is 4,601 people as of May 15.

“This number includes 224 staff members and state officials of Indonesian representative offices. There are 201 sailors and crewmen too,” said Andy in the hearing with Commission I House members on May 18.

Moreover, out of the people exposed to the coronavirus, there are 753 who are under hospital treatment with 193 deaths logged. The recovery rate is 79 percent; from 3,655 Indonesians overseas who have recovered from the virus.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has accepted an additional spending budget (ABT) of Rp64 billion to handle the situations and it will be distributed to 128 Indonesian representative offices abroad.

This will be used to fund a number of programs protecting Indonesian citizens categorized as ‘prone groups’. The programs include providing logistic and cash aid, supplying Covid-19 vaccine, facilitating their repatrition to Indonesia, up to financing their healthcare services abroad.
