TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin on Monday said the government had prepared resources to face a possible surge in COVID-19 cases following the Eid al-Fitr holidays and facilities, such as hospital beds, to treat coronavirus cases.

According to Sadikin, there are currently 70,000 beds for COVID patients nationwide with 20,000 of them already filled.

“There is a buffer of about 50,000 or 250 percent isolation rooms occupancy rate,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin in an online press conference on May 17.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has roughly 7,500 ICU beds to treat COVID-19 patients with 2,500 beds currently used. The government ensured that medicinal supplies had been distributed to hospitals.

“We do hope the increase after the Eid holidays will not be too significant. Hopefully, our reserves will not be needed,” said the Health Minister.
