TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police plan to operate checkpoints until the end of May 2021 to check residents who return to Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) after celebrating Eid al-Fitr festivity in their hometowns.

"We will operate them at least until the first seven days (after the homecoming trip ban) or await a policy as to whether we will operate them until the end of May," Traffic Director of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said here on Saturday.

He said residents who will return to the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police after celebrating Eid al-Fitr festivity in their hometowns should carry COVID-19-free certificates and show the results of rapid COVID-19 antigen tests.

The documents will make it easy for the residents who will return to Jabodetabek, he added.

"So, in case of check they could only show the documents," he said. .

The Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has set up 12 checkpoints to check the COVID-19-free certificates of Eid al-Fitr travellers returning to Jakarta.

Sambodo said the police will check the COVID-19-free certificates and the results of rapid-COVID-19 antigen tests at random.

If the travelers returning to Jakarta do not possess COVID-19-free certificates, they will be required to undergo antigen swab tests at the checkpoints.

"If they are found reactive (to the COVID-19) we will check and take them to Wisma Atlet (COVID-19 Emergency Hospital) to undergo polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. They will be isolated while waiting for the results of PCR tests," he said.

To break the chain of transmission of COVID-19, which has impacted the purchasing power of scores of families in Indonesia, the government banned homebound travel, or "mudik," ahead of this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday season akin to last year.

The 12 checkpoints were set up at
1. parking lot in KM 34B of Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.
2. Kalideres bus terminal.
3. Pulogebang bus terminal.
4. Kebon Nanas, Tangerang City .
5. Jatiuwung, Tangerang City.
6. Transportation Office in Batuceper, Tangerang City.
7. Rengas-Lemahabang highway, Bekasi District.
8. Sasak Jarang Post, Bekasi City.
9. Tomyang Post, Bekasi City.
10. Parung, Ciputat, Bojongsari, Depok highway.
