TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Daily Workers Assembly of the Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI) has strongly condemned the Tuesday slayings of four residents in Kilimago village, Poso, Central Sulawesi committed by the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT).

“This act is really beyond the limits of humanity and intolerable,” PGI secretary-general Jacky Manuputyy said on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

Jacky said the killings followed the massacre that took place in late 2020 by the same group. He called on the authorities, the military and the police to stem the lingering terrors in Poso.

“The slayings, which have recurred within a short period of time, have insulted the ability of our security forces, implying they are helpless in facing this terror group,” he said.

Jacky said the public was entitled to their rights to security and peace guarantee and should be free of any forms of terror. Thus, PGI urged the government and security personnel to ramp up their efforts in dealing with the terror group to avert more casualties.

PGI also asked locals to remain vigilant, amplify their social defence measures and support the government in coping with MIT terrors. “Because these have really insulted both the religious and the national sacred values,” he said.
