TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Labor Minister Ida Fauziyah asked workers and employees to obey the 'mudik' (exodus) ban that begins today, reminding people about the severe situation in India. The government is forbidding people from taking the traditional homecoming trip this Eid, to curb Covid-19 infections.

"I am asking everyone to delay this year's mudik," she in a written statement received in Jakarta, Thursday, May 6.

Ida said that an increase in people's mobility can lead to soaring number of cases.

She also said that Indonesians should learn from situations in countries experiencing case spikes and seeing new variants of the virus, such as India.

In her statement, Ida also reminded people to wear masks, social distance, and avoid crowds.

The Labor Ministry issued a circular on restricting Idul Fitri exodus this year as an effort to control Covid-19 transmission. The circular appeals to workers, private employees, and migrant workers not to travel between May 6 and 17 as regulated by the government.
