TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo left for East Java Province today morning, May 6, 2021, for a working visit. He was scheduled to inaugurate a waste-to-energy power plant (PSEL), a waste management facility that turns waste into energy in Benowo Landfill, Surabaya.

“The facility that will be a pilot project for the development of waste management into electrical energy will be inaugurated directly by the President,” said the Presidential Secretariat’s Press Bureau (BPMI) on Thursday, May 6.

President and related officials had long discussed the construction of a waste management facility during a limited meeting on July 16, 2019. It was not only aimed to supply electricity but also to overcome waste issues, particularly in big cities.

Before the inauguration event, the President would visit the Brondong Fish Market and Distribution Center in Lamongan Regency. He would monitor facilities and infrastructure and have a dialogue with local fishermen.

He was also scheduled to monitor seafood processing factories that export their processed products to various foreign countries.

After inspecting and inaugurating the PSEL in Surabaya, Jokowi would leave for Jakarta in the afternoon. Among the President's retinue were State Secretary Minister Pratikno, the President's Military Secretary TNI Young Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) commander Maj. Gen. Agus Subiyanto, and the Presidential Secretariat's deputy for protocol, press, and media Bey Machmudin.
