TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo opened the 2021 National Development Planning Conference which was held at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, May 4, 2021. In his remarks, he emphasized that the government's action plan in 2022 will still focus on economic recovery and structural reforms.

“The government's action plan in 2022 is still supporting economic recovery and structural reforms,” he remarked.

He said the most basic foundation for economic recovery is containing the Covid-19 pandemic. This, he added, could be done by accelerating government spending, particularly various forms of social assistance and labor-intensive programs, as well as encouraging public spending. “The demand side must be enlarged,” the state head added.

He also encouraged the industry to start rising and workers to start working. However, those must be done under strict health protocols. “Don't bargain about this,” the President asserted.

He further reiterated that large-scale structural reforms had already commenced with the enactment of the Job Creation Law. All ministries, institutions, and regional governments were urged to work together to implement and use this structural reform.

“We have to plan it from now on to increase the added value of industrial sectors, enhance food security, and recover the tourism sector,” Jokowi said.
