TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force Wiku Adisasmito revealed why the death rate caused by the coronavirus disease remains high.
“Indonesia’s current death rate is 2.7 percent, and it has lasted for more than two months since the beginning of February 2021,” said Wiku in a press conference on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
The case fatality rate was obtained by comparing the number of deaths with the number of positive cases since the onset of the pandemic. With this comparison, the figure can be suppressed if the number of deaths does not increase. “Or the hike is not above the increase in the number of positive cases,” Wiku said.
According to him, one of the ways to be done is to make sure that all new patients can recover so that there will be no new deaths.
At present, 10 provinces with the highest surge in positive cases during April 2021 include Riau, West Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau Islands, Banten, Bengkulu, Aceh, Jambi, South Sumatra, and West Kalimantan.
Wiku asked regional heads in the 10 provinces to pay attention to the handling of Covid-19 in their respective regions. “This is an alarm for 10 provinces because the high number of positive cases can lead to a high number of deaths if not handled properly. So it can increase the national Covid-19 death rate,” he said.
