TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan will announce a policy on the capital’s tourism during the Eid homecoming ban which will take effect next week. The rule aims to anticipate crowds of people in tourist sites as they are barred from returning to their hometowns during the Eid al-Fitr holidays.

“It is to prevent gatherings of people. We will announce the details,” said Anies today at Fatahillah Park of Kota Tua, North Jakarta.

He said people must not take their guards off as the Covid-19 pandemic is still happening in the capital. He mentioned that other countries saw a surge in positive cases when they have already felt safe.

During the ban on Eid homecoming or locally known mudik from May 6-17, Jakartans are only allowed to travel in the Jakarta Greater Area of Jabodetabek. People are required to present a Covid-19 free health certificate and an entry and exit permit (SIKM) as set by the city’s transportation agency.

For the SIKM travel requirement, the Jakarta government led by Anies Baswedan took a reference from the addendum to the Covid-19 Task Force Circular No. 13/2021.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno predicted that this year's Eid homecoming ban will increase the number of domestic tourists. Thus, he coordinated with local authorities to tighten the implementation of the health protocols.
