Indonesia to Receive 3.8 Million More AstraZeneca Vaccines Next Month

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry's spokesperson for Covid-19 vaccination, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, confirmed that 3,852,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in early May 2021. Indonesia secured the vaccine supply through the multilateral vaccine distribution scheme, the COVAX facility.
“Yes, this is from Covax. The arrival will be in May,” said Nadia via a text message today, April 21, 2021.
Based on the Unicef document obtained by Tempo, the delivery date noted in the purchase order is on April 23, 2021. However, the vaccine will be shipped seven days after the purchase date because of the process of the document administration and flight availability. Thus, it is expected to land in Indonesia in early May.
Nadia further said that the vaccine has an expiration period of one month so that it must be used immediately. “This will later be intended for people who have received their first dose,” she added.
Last March, Indonesia received as many as 1.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that have been used up for the first injection. The Health Ministry distributed the Covid-19 vaccines to seven provinces. The injection of the second dose will use the vaccine which will be shipped in early May.
