Coffee Futures Trade Grows 63.06 Percent in 2020

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Trade Ministry’s Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (BAPPEBTI) recorded transactions in the Indonesian coffee futures trading continued to grow. Citing the records of PT Bursa Berjangka Jakarta, the transaction volume in the third quarter of 2020 grew by 63.06 percent year-on-year.
“Coffee transactions grew quite significantly,” said Bappebti Head Sidharta Utama in a written statement on Thursday, April 8.
According to Utama, the total transactions of coffee contracts during this period reached 1.24 million lots, contributing to the 33.4 percent of the total transaction volume at the Futures Exchange.
This information was revealed after Sidharta Utama signed a partnership between the Jakarta Futures Exchange (JFX) and the Association of Indonesian Coffee Exporters and Industries (AEKI). Both agreed to expand education efforts on the physical market trading and coffee commodity futures contracts.
The third quarter of 2020 saw 1.24 lots of coffee transacted. Based on coffee types, contract sizes were: robusta (5 tons) and arabica (2 tons). Robusta in the current market is priced at around Rp19,700-20,800 per kilogram, while Arabica from Rp68,000-71,000 per kilogram.
