Jokowi Reportedly Planning to Set up Separate Ministry for Investment Affairs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo is reportedly planning to form a ministry to handle investment affairs. This plan is written in a letter that Jokowi sent to the DPR speaker at the end of March 2021.
Tempo sources said the letter contains two main points. The first is the President's plan to turn the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) into an independent institution.
"In addition, in order to maximize the Job Creation Law, the government will form an Investment Ministry," the sources said.
As of now, investments are handled by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs.
Based on Law 39/2008 on State Ministries, the DPR has seven working days to reply to the letter, otherwise it would be assumed that they agreed/approved the contents of said letter.
DPR Deputy Speaker Azis Syamsuddin confirmed that Jokowi sent the letter regarding the formation of an Investment Ministry. "Yes, the letter [was sent on] March 30," said Azis, Wednesday, April 7. He also confirmed there is a plan to establish the ministry.
