TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that the Covid-19 trend in Indonesia keeps declining. The rate of active cases or people who are still positive for the disease is already in a single digit of 7.4 percent.

“Compare that to the global rate of 17.3 percent,” said Airlangga, who is also the Chairman of the Covid-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee, in a webinar on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

As of Tuesday, April 6, as quoted from the government’s official website covid19.go.id, the country’s active cases rate was 7.4 percent or 114,566 cases. Meanwhile, the recovery rate reached 89.9 percent, above the global rate of 80.5 percent, Airlangga added.

The figures have been much better compared to those in the beginning of the year. The page noted that the recovery rate on January 1, 2021, was 82.2 percent.

However, Indonesia's case fatality rate hit 2.7 percent, exceeding the global rate of 2.17 percent. Yet this was considered a drop as it was 2.97 percent on January 1.

According to Airlangga, most of the Covid-19-related deaths in the archipelago were in elderly people aged over 60. The rate amounted to 48.1 percent, as reported on the official page. “This is what the government is dealing with by accelerating vaccinations for the elderly,” he said.
