TEMPO.CO, Malang - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) will reopen the hiking trails of Mount Semeru beginning April 1, 2021, after 4-months closure due to increased volcanic activity since November 28, 2020.

The opening of the hiking trail of the highest mountain on Java Island is announced via a circular dated March 29, 2021.

The TNBTS official Sarif Hidayat said that the opening of the mountain climbing at an altitude of 3676 meters above sea level is agreed in a coordination meeting with all stakeholders while referring to the recommendation of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).

"For the time being the quota of hikers is limited to 180 people per day or 30 percent of the capacity of 600 people,” Sarif said on Tuesday night, March 30, 2021.

He explained that tourists are obliged to comply with the health protocol against Covid-19, such as wearing a face mask, carrying hand sanitizer, keeping a distance, and presenting a document declaring good health or at least a document declaring free of ISPA or upper respiratory tract infection.

People aged below 10 and above 60 are not allowed to hike Mount Semeru, East Java. Besides, hikers are only allowed to stay for a maximum of 3 days and 2 nights. The hiking route is restricted until only Pos Kalimati.
