TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Education and Culture Minister, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, asked regional governments to prioritize Covid-19 vaccination for teachers and educators. Indonesia had begun phase two of Covid vaccination in February, which targets priority groups outside health workers, including teachers and elderly citizens.

The central government is targeting vaccinations for teachers to be completed by no later than the end of June. That way, schools can reopen in July.

"We urge regional governments to ensure that teachers and education workers are a top priority. This goes for public and private education - both formal and non-formal, as well as religious education," Nadiem said during an online press conference on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

Covid-19 vaccination for educators of preschools and elementary schools to be carried out on the second weekend of May 2021.

For teachers of junior high schools, high schools, vocational schools, the first dose of vaccine will be administered in the fourth week of May 2021. For university lecturers, the vaccination is targeted for completion at the second weekend of June 2021.
