Jokowi Visits Maluku to Ensure Covid Vaccine Even Distribution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi visited North Halmahera, North Maluku to observe a Covid-19 mass vaccination on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. The vaccination was held at the Kao District Office, one of the remote areas in North Halmahera.
Jokowi said his presence there was to make sure that the Covid-19 vaccine is evenly distributed to remote areas.
"Why did I come to this district? I want to ensure that the vaccine is evenly distributed in remote areas, areas that are difficult to reach," the president said in a video posted to the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.
One hundred elderly citizens, workers and public servants took the vaccines. The vaccination was held by following strict health protocols.
Kao sub-district, with a population of around 9,400, will start vaccinations with a target of 100 people per day.
President Jokowi hopes that rural regions, especially in remote areas, can also hold mass vaccinations in order to immediately break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
During his visit, the President was accompanied by a number of ministers including Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, as well as North Maluku Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba.
