TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is still recording thousands of new Covid-19 infections on a daily basis. On Tuesday, March 23, the National Covid-10 Task Force reported 5,297 new cases over the last 24 hours.
The additional cases brings up the nation's caseload total to 1,471,225 since the coronavirus was first detected in March last year.
According to the Health Ministry's data per 12:00 West Indonesia Time, today's cases were obtained from the results of the examining 77,402 specimens.
On the same day, the number of recovered patients increased by 6,954 orang. Indonesia's total recoveries now reached 1,304,921. The number of people who died from Covid-19 increased by 154, raising the death toll to 39,865.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said that many residents are late to recognize the symptoms of Covid and delay going to the doctor for a check-up. This, he said, is why the city's Covid-19 mortality rate is increasing.
Jakarta had seen a decline in infection rates to less than 1,000 new cases per day. But in the last three days, the number of new patients resurged to more than 1,500 people per day.
