TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Ombudsman asked the Jakarta Provincial Government and regional governments of Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi to thoughtfully consider and prepare a study on the school reopening.

Teguh P Nugroho, Head of the Jakarta Ombudsman, said such a study is necessary as a basis for regional heads to create policies. “It should be a macro study instead of about the technical issues of school readiness in preparing facilities and infrastructure for face-to-face learning,” he explained.

Teguh argued that such studies should include the virus transmission rate and impact of Covid-19 in the region, the virus transmission area, and the capacity of health facilities and infrastructure.

It should also be about the projection of regional readiness if there is a surge in cases due to the implementation of face-to-face learning, budget, assessment, supervisory function, and the mechanism to public complaints.

The Covid-19 handling task force will then recommend how many pilot schools are allowed to reopen to be monitored by regional governments.

Teguh said that the authority to assess the process of school reopening is in the hands of the regional governments along with the Education and Culture Minister, Religious Affairs Minister, Health Minister, and Home Affairs Minister.
