TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 death rate in Jakarta has risen from 1.6 to 1.7 percent in the last few days. Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said that the hike was due to residents being late in checking themselves at a hospital.

"Residents who develop symptoms [of Covid-19] must not hesitate [to visit a hospital]. Even if they have been vaccinated, check to the nearest health center if symptoms develop," said Riza at City Hall, Thursday, March 18, 2021.

Riza asked Jakartans experiencing symptoms of the disease to immediately go to the nearest health centers to get first aid. According to the Health Agency's data, the case fatality rate increases due to delayed treatment factors.

"Many people are late in responding to symptoms in the body, late in making a report, so the treatment is delayed," Riza added.

Riza hoped that people will stay disciplined in adhering to the health protocols although the vaccination program has started. Those who have been vaccinated must implement the predetermined health protocols of wearing face masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands regularly.

To reduce the Covid-19 death rate, Riza Patria appealed to Jakarta residents to immediately report if they experience symptoms of the coronavirus infection. He guaranteed that the cost of Covid-19 treatment is free. "Don't hesitate. [The treatment] is free," Riza said.
