TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi ensured that the government will not prohibit people from going on homecoming for Eid al-Fitr this year.

“Regarding Eid homecoming 2021, the government through the Transportation Ministry does not ban it,” said Budi Karya in a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission V here on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

However, Budi underlined that the ministry would continue coordination and collaboration with the Covid-19 handling task force by tightening the health protocols and tracing people willing to go on homecoming or locally known as mudik.

The ministry has also released seven policies on the Eid holiday, as follow:

  1. The ministry continues to disseminate strict health protocols in departure places, during trips, and arrival places
  2. The ministry ensures the availability of land, sea, and air transportation services.
  3. The ministry ensures the feasibility of transportation facilities and infrastructure.
  4. The ministry enhances public order and security at transportation modes.
  5. The ministry carries out intensive coordination with stakeholders including the National Traffic Police, the Public Works and Housing Ministry, toll road operator Jasa Marga, regional governments, and transportation service operators by establishing joint posts.
  6. The ministry redirects traffic to ensure smooth transportation during the Eid holidays.
  7. The ministry monitors and evaluates the implementation, starting from the preparation to post homecoming.

Budi Karya said that the Transportation Ministry as the national coordinator hoped this year's Eid homecoming will run well. “We also ask DPR's Commission V to jointly monitor the preparation and the homecoming process,” he said.
