TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Risk Report stated that 80 percent of the youth population across the world has experienced mental health decline throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and also highlights that it is the most neglected problem during the pandemic.

This corroborates the situation in Indonesia as telemedicine service provider Halodoc reported a 300 percent increase in the number of users who consulted issues related to mental health - a category out of five others that were the most consulted by patients.

The report stated that this decline is mainly driven by the economic prospect and limited opportunity towards education young people are exposed to.

This includes the harsh situation in the job industry caused by the situation and the digital discrepancy amidst the pandemic and in the long run could widen the socio-economic gap and discrepancies related to human resources skills and competitiveness.

According to the president of Adira Insurance, which is part of Zurich Group that is involved in the report, Hassan Karim, the pandemic has faced the young generation to a world filled with challenges.

Citing Antaranews, he said that “They are the ones who will lead the country in the next 20-30 years and will be a challenging and important issue to tackle considering Indonesia’s ‘gold generation 2045’ goal, this will be even more challenging and important to be handled,” said Hassan.
