TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is aiming to speed up its Covid-19 vaccination program. One of the efforts is preparing a private vaccination scheme or non-subsidized one.

“The Health Minister has issued a regulation on vaccinations under mutual cooperation scheme, which is the participation of companies for its employees and their families to help accelerate the vaccination program,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in a video conference on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

According to Airlangga, the government planned to procure 20.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines via state-run pharmacy PT Bio Farma and its pharmaceutical holding subsidiaries.

It was planned that 15 million doses will be imported from a Chinese producer, Sinopharm, in the first and second quarter of 2021. Besides, 5.2 million doses will be purchased from a United States producer, Moderna, in the third and fourth quarter of 2021.

The government is eyeing to conduct vaccinations in stages until the end of 2021. In the first stage from January to February, 1.5 million health workers were targeted to receive the vaccine.

It is also hoped that 16.9 million public officials and 21.5 million elderly would get the vaccine in the second stage from February to June. The third stage of Covid-19 vaccination will kick off in March or April until the year’s end for 63.9 million vulnerable people and another 7.7 million people.
