Retno Marsudi Meets Myanmar Foreign Minister; Asserts Indonesia's Stand

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi on a video conference, Wednesday, Feb. 24, announced that she had met with Foreign Affairs Minister of Myanmar - appointed by the country’s military - Wunna Maung Lwin during her work visit to Thailand.
Minister Retno Marsudi said she had conveyed Indonesia’s stand on the recent military coup in Myanmar and asserted to Lwin that “Indonesia will be by the side of the Myanmar people.”
During their brief meeting - which took place at the Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok, which was also attended by Thailand’s foreign affairs minister - Minister Marsudi asserted Indonesia’s commitment toward the safety and welfare of Myanmar people.
Retno Marsudi also urged everyone to refrain from using violence and avoid further victims and bloodshed. She also constantly asserted the importance of an inclusive democratic transition, which needs to be acted upon amidst a secure and peaceful state.
“Among others is to hold dialogues, reconcile, build trust, and Indonesia will be with the people of Myanmar,” said the foreign affairs minister who also asked the Myanmar military junta to respect the principles of the ASEAN charter.
