TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan revealed that the city administration deployed 16,000 officers to continuously monitor 644 sluice gates, mobilized 1,013 pumps, 228 fire trucks, and 100 water tank trucks to tackle floods in the capital.

Anies expressed his gratitude to them. “And to all people who are helping to provide food, health assistance, and social assistance, and those who are directly involved with the affected residents,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, February 23.

He also thanked the Indonesian Military or TNI and the National Police personnel for providing aid directly at the flood sites.

Handling the impact of extreme rainfall, he opined, was a colossal work that is carefully planned, simulated in the field before the rainy season arrives, and carried out jointly by all elements.

“Until finally, thanks to God's permission, this collective effort can quickly restore the conditions in Jakarta,” said Anies.

He hoped that the apparatus could continuously improve the work, maintain vigilance, and not let the guards down. “We must keep paying attention to warnings issued by BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency),” he underlined.

Anies Baswedan said the floods on Saturday, February 20, had been completely controlled. The flood waters in all affected areas had receded on Sunday, and by Monday morning, affected residents had returned to their homes.
