TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government planned to summon property developers to discuss the impacts of their development in the capital city, including floods.

“We will summon them and have discussions so that developers can also take responsibility for various problems,” said Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria here on Monday, February 22. Apart from floods, the issues include traffic jams and other environmental problems.

The city administration, Riza said, was making an inventory list and checking the number of private companies or developers in the capital, both those bringing positive and negative contributions to the environment.

Riza made the statement in response to accusations fired by netizens on social media that a shopping mall belonging to a property developer was considered to have caused flooding in Kemang.

Riza said that developers often helped the government to improve infrastructures for the benefit of the community but there also ones that caused environmental problems. “We will sanction whoever is guilty. There are mechanisms and regulations [on the issue].”

The Jakarta administration would also re-examine the building permits (IMB), the environmental impact assessment (Amdal), livable housing certificate, and various requirements. “All parties must cooperate with the city government to help Jakarta,” Riza underlined.
