TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan confirmed that since the early hours of Monday, February 22, flood waters in all areas of the capital city have completely subsided. However, several evacuation tents remained open.

“Facilities such as tents and food are still prepared,” said Anies, explaining that the tents could serve as shelters for residents as they were cleaning up after the flood.

The city administration remained on alert given the weather forecast issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) that there is potential for extreme rainfall in Java Island, particularly the northern coast.

“Inshallah, in the coming weeks, we will improve our work so that the rainfall in Jabodetabek areas, especially Jakarta, can be a blessing, and we will strive to minimize the impact from extreme rainfall,” Anies Baswedan remarked.

Previously, the BMKG predicted that the rain intensity in the capital city on Sunday tended to weaken, and that would last until Monday, February 22.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday-Wednesday, February 23-24, BMKG forecasted heavy rainfall in Jakarta. As widely reported, extreme rainfall occurring last Friday-Saturday resulted in flooding in several regions of the city.

On that basis, BMKG asked Jakarta residents to raise vigilance of the potential for heavy rain which could lead to flooding.
