TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, hopes that the Indonesian-Chinese or Tionghoa, in this year's Imlek or the Chinese New Year will always get a lot of luck and blessings.

"Gong He Xin Xi, Wan Shi Ru Yi. I hope you'll be surrounded with the blessings and all of your plans and efforts will be carried out well," Yaqut said in a written statement on Friday, February 12.

This year’s Lunar new year is celebrated under the concern of the Covid-19 pandemic. The minister, therefore, asked the Indonesian Tionghoa to pray for the global pandemic to soon end.

"Hopefully, the pandemic will soon be contained and the Indonesian'seconomy will soon recover."

Amid the concern, he asked for the people to celebrate the Lunar New Year not excessively yet solemnly and remain under the corridor of Covid-19 protocols.

"Celebrate it modestly with the family and stay discipline to conduct health protocols, " he said.
