TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned the public to stay vigilant of potential impacts of floods or flash floods as noted in the release of the impact-based forecast (IBF).

At least four provinces in Java were potentially affected by flooding on February 10-11 under the alert status or Siaga. “They are Banten, West Java, Central Java, and East Java,” as quoted from the agency’s statement on Thursday.

The agency reported that most of Indonesia’s regions or 96 percent of 342 seasonal zones (ZOM) have entered the rainy season. As predicted in August 2020, the peak of the rainy season would be in January-February 2021.

Several regions that would face the peak of the rainy season included are parts of southern Sumatra, most of Java including Jakarta, parts of Kalimantan, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, parts of Sulawesi, parts of Maluku, parts of West Papua, and parts of southern Papua.

Meanwhile, based on the integrated analysis of BMKG, PUPR, and BIG data, several regions were forecasted to hit by flooding in the second ten days of February 2021. They were a small part of southern Aceh, a small part of central Jambi, a small part of eastern West Java, a part of northern Central Java, and a small part of eastern East Java.
