TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Military (TNI) would deploy 29,736 personnel to carry out Covid-19 contact tracing in seven provinces across Java and Bali under the enforcement of the micro-scale community activity restrictions or Micro PPKM.

The personnel consists of 27,866 village supervisory non-commissioned officers (Babinsa), 1,768 Maritime Potential Development Officers of the Indonesian Navy (Babinpotmar), and 102 Aerospace Potential Guidance Officers of the Indonesian Air Force (Babinpotdirga).

“The military personnel will help to trace Covid-19 cases in 7 provinces of Java-Bali,” said the TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto in the TNI HQ in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Tuesday, February 9.

According to Hadi, the officers had been trained as Covid-19 tracers before they were being stationed. “So other than enforcing the public discipline to the health protocols, the military personnel can help the government to trace cases among the community,” he said.

Additionally, the TNI prepared health officers who would be tasked, during the Micro PPKM, as vaccinators to support the national Covid-19 vaccination program. “The TNI has 1,008 verified vaccinators and will increase the number by holding training for 10,000 new vaccinators,” Hadi explained.
