TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Toll road operator Astra closed parts of the Cikopo-Palimanan or Cipali toll road in KM 122 heading to Jakarta on Tuesday morning, February 9, as the roadway collapsed.

“The road in KM 122 is closed, and we apply the contraflow system,” said the Astra spokesperson Theresia Dyah to Tempo on Tuesday.

Theresia said the firm would immediately update the information related to road closures.

Video footage showing traffic jams on the toll road circulated on social media and instant messaging platforms. The vehicle density was caused by the cracked road in one of the road sections that was covered with a tarpaulin.

The day before on Monday, the Kertajati toll gate in Majalengka Regency, West Java, was also shut down.

The Astra’s general manager of the toll road operation, Suyitno, said the closure was enforced since the main road leading to West Java International Airport (BIJB) was inundated by floodwaters up to 70-centimeter high.
